Mexico was always, at least for me, kind of place where you should go the last. Seriously, in every movie, TV show about Mexico we hear, drugs, danger, robbery. Only crazy people will dare to go there right? Well, this is what we did in August, 2015. We were 8 people from Azerbaijan going to Mexico to implement project that we all knew can make a lot of impact – My Company – My Startup.
Main goal of project was to educate students on how to establish your own startup, provide basic required knowledge and encourage them to present they business idea in the end of 6 weeks’ trainings. Except this my own vision of this trip – See real Mexico, get new network, make an impact.
See real Mexico. What you imagine when you say “Mexico”? That it is hot right? Well we went there in August and it was cold. So the first stereotype was broken. Second one – everyone is not trying to rob you in the street or sell you drugs. At least in daytime. It is dangerous at nights in specific regions, but this is true for most of the cities in the world, it is not just Mexico. Instead of danger we saw bright color and rich culture, which will definitely excite you.
New network. As mention our goal was to educate students. We did but it did not go one way. I realized that there are things to be learned from them. Each one of students was good at something, or had great business idea we could totally get tons of new things from them and use it for our mutual benefits in the future. I have read that 80% why businesses succeed is because of network. So it was definitely right place to be both for us and for them to get the right network.
Make an impact. End is always sad. That is what I thought. But reaction of student were so unexpected and inspiring that it did not feel like an end, it felt like the beginning of something more. These are some of feedbacks that we have gotten from them:
“I had entrepreneurship whole last semester but what I’ve got here is more valuable than whole semester”,
Another one – “I wish I can make the same impact as you did here for us one day somewhere in the world. I want to do the same project in other countries so I decided to join AIESEC (organization thanks to which we realized this project) thanks to you.
These lessons showed me what this project has done and can do if is developed. It is opportunity to teach others and learn from them, connect with people from all over the world opening opportunity to access fresh knowledge, view and space to bring new ideas or test and develop existing ones.
